am having trouble trying to swap the psu from whats left of my old pc into this dell thats now runing a 8800gts 512,i was sure at first this dells psu could handle the 8800 gts 512 because i used to run a 8800 gts 320 in it but after a couple hours in the dell it wont boot up with it,reckon with the fan run its just to much.

this psu wont sit in the case like it should but who cares, the pc is temp anyway.my main problem right now is wiring up the psu to the mobo, the dell psu uses a 8 pin p2 plug( 4 black 2 yellow 2 white) were the one i want to fit only has a 4 pin p2 plug(2 black 2 yellow)

anyone got any ideas how i can get this to work,

here psu details incase you need to search

dell xps gen 5  460w

coolermaster 600w

any helps appreciated, ill also be on xfire for awhile with laptop.cheers

You may well have done. I know that Dell use BTX instead of the standard ATX case design which would effect the PSU that you would be able to use (might explain why you cannot fit your ATX PSU into the case correctly).

I would say that if you have managed to connect it up, it would most likely blow the board due to incorrect pin layouts.

from reading other forums the 4 pin plug into the 8 was ok,i reckon the white wire that runs from the 600w psu to mobo caused the problem, the dell psu doesnt use that one wire, the slot on the dell psu plug is emtpy, every thing else was a match.WELL DONE SOULFLY!
