just thought i'd post this as not many people know the specifications of their computers, and us tech heads really do need to know this vital information before we can even think of trying to help.
we need to know:
1. make and model number of your motherboard (this is the most useful info as we can look up the motherboard and find the correct drivers..etc etc) if PC is a pre-built like a dell or hewlit packard or packard bell or alienware, we need the PC model number or if you look at motherboard there should be a model number in-between the expansion slots.
2. we need to know which operating system you have...xp, vista or windows 7 and whether it's 32 or 64 bit
3. graphics card model, soundcard model
4. type of memory (make and number)
5.cpu model.....we can tell by motherboard if it's intel or AMD
6. another important piece of info is write down any error messages, if your PC won't boot and the blue screen keeps disappearing then tap F8 on bootup and choose the option " disable restart on system failure" this will stop your PC from going into the reboot loop and will stop at the blue screen so you can write down the error message, there should be a file name or device name that is causing the blue screen, which is most probably a corrupt system file or corrupt hardware device driver. the 000x800000 type messages are only memory addresses but can be useful for us tech heads to search internet for more info on the problem.

These are step by step instructions for saving your dxdiag. The instructions and screens included are from Vista but I imagine it should not vary much between the various Windows OS's.

Open up the 'Start' menu.

Type 'dxdiag' in the 'Search Bar' and hit enter.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

As you can see in the picture above (click on it to enlarge), the search found a program called 'dxdiag'. Click on the Icon to run this program.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Once you click on the program icon, you should see this screen (click on the picture above to enlarge). It will take a moment for the program to finish. Once it has, click on the 'Save All Information' button. You will be prompted to save the dxdiag file with a name and location.

Then either upload the file or copy and paste it into your thread.
