Windows 7 Home Premium, Service pack 1. 64 bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30 GHz 3.60 GHz
8.00 GB (RAM)

Gigabyte Z68AP-D3

AMD Radeon HD 6950 graphics card.

Zalman case with 4 case fans and a thermaltake cooler.

Problem message "AMD driver has stopped working and has recovered"

Seriously considering getting a nvidia card!

The problem seems to raise it's ugly head when I change graphical settings in games, though this may be coincidental it is the strongest link I've had to the problem occuring.

The screen will be flecked with different coloured squares and freeze for several seconds before going black and coming back on with the message above. These breaks can vary in length.

Eventually after several days or weeks it will happen and not recover becoming stuck in an endless rotation of flecked coloured blocks on screen before it goes black, flecked coloured blocks, black etc.

At this point I have to do a full system reinstallation. After the first few times I eventually remembered to save all my important files to my secondary hard drive and not the solid state drive my operating system was installed on.

I have googled on the subject understanding a little of what I have discovered but the majority is beyond my limited understanding. I have a local friend that has helped me with reinstallations of windows and he has done stress tests to the graphics card and other tests to see if there are any hardware faults with my pc but everything checked out ok.

All drivers were reinstalled with latest versions.

I can't send it back to the people who built it without accumulating a £40 transit cost and if they don't find a hardware fault I get charged another £80 aswell, quite irritating.

I will post a dx diag if needed.

This is why i never go near AMD processors or graphics cards......i'm an intel and nvidia guy.....AMD was and by the sound of it still are a budget alternative to intel and nvidia.....plus i don't like gigabyte motherboards either as i've experienced problems with those boards....stick with ASUS or MSI for motherboards and intel and nvidia for CPU and graphics.

Maybe you could also post on the official total war forums. I have a hunch you could find a solution there.
