Hi,
You asked what was a good graphics card replacement using PCI-E 1.x
Well, having done a little research, PCI-E 1.x is compatable with PCI-E 2.x (according to Wiki) so any card. It may be worth looking at some around your price range and posting the links here for comments.
Anyway, here's what I would buy at current ranges:
High-End - NVidia GT580
Mid - ATi HD6850/HD6870*
Bit-Tech PC Buyers Guide
* It may be worth holding of until NVidia releases its update to the 460 as these are normally very competitive.
