Picked up an old acer aspire for free the other day, moniter etc etc.. managed to get it running again.

Whats your thoughts on best out the two, am thinking the i3

Both are crap..

What am using

i3 550 3.2 ghz dual core
4 gb ddr3 665 mhz
ati hd5570 1025mb
ms7658 mobo

spare pc

amd 9500 2.2 ghz quad core
3 gb ddr2 332mhz
gforce8400 256 mb
acer f690 gvm am2 socket mobo

I could swap graphics card and psu around, probaly not worth it.. Even though the amd is a quad core the i3 is probably alot better????

The set-up your currently have is better in terms of CPU and GPU, although as for what it's worth I've no idea.

Probably guessed this was coming but what you do you mean when you say budget? (also if you're sticking with the same motherboard what socket is it?)

I'd prob say an i5 should be more than enough for gaming (can always overclock) I'll need to look at exact models though as I don't know any off the top of my head.

Dont know how reliable these guys are but there doesn't seem to be a huge difference.

If you're looking to buy, I can get a list of clearance PCs from where the Mrs works?

Just picked up a rig with an i7, 16gb ram and a 1tb hdd for £230 (shite matx mobo though).

It is rare for such a good deal but they do come round. There might also be something else in there that you could use?

Nothing good on the list at the moment.

Not unless you're looking for 30 or so single core paperweights?
